An intimate thatched-roof lodge boasting eight stylish rooms that overlook one of Africa's great rivers, the majestic Chobe.
Unique Location
The lodge, on a 2.4 Ha island at the far eastern edge of the Caprivi Strip in Namibia, is a unique base for water activities, fishing, birding and day trips to Chobe National
Park and Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. On the north side of Kakumba Island flows the Zambezi River, the continent's second largest river after the
Nile. It rushes eastward to feed Victoria Falls and cascades into the Batoka Gorge on its way to sea. To the south is the Chobe, which flows westward into Botswana's desert,
creating a haven for wildlife and plants and earning Botswana the distinction of showcasing the the last true wilderness on Earth.
The vantage point for the visitor to Kakumba Island Lodge is extraordinary at the confluence of these two mighty rivers.
Activities
Here you will find the world's best tiger fishing. We will equip you with the gear and the expert crew on our state-of-the-art boat for an incomparable "catch-and-release"
expedition. The area is a birder's paradise, home to the African Skimmer and the African Fish Eagle. Not far from the lodge, hippos breed in papyrus in what has been called
with affection "the maternity ward". And the crocodiles in the waters are among the largest in the world. Apart from water activities, guided walks on the island afford an
opportunity for cultural exploration, through hikes to Namibian villages sustained by fishing and cattle farming. The villages themselves relay the history of this region and
their place in it.
In the late afternoon, enjoy a "sundowner" boat cruise that is anything but typical. Kakumba Island Lodge visitors cruise the waters of Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe,
all in the minutes before sunset. Such is the unique "four corners" border in this part of Africa, the inspiration for countless romantic, wild African stories at sundown.
Day Trips
With Victoria Falls merely an hours drive away, our guide will accommpany guests on a day's visit to the falls, the local curio shop and the reptile park, where the world's
largest crocodiles reside. For those who intend to plan their own activities, from bungee jumping at Victoria Falls to whitewater rafting on the Zambezi to game drives in Chobe
National Park, Kakumba Island Lodge offers the perfect oasis from which to launch such day trips.
