General Information

  1. Safari Dossier
    A dossier detailing climate, recommended clothing, visas etc. will be forwarded to the participants or
    tour operator / travel agent after confirmation of
    the reservation. It is absolutely essential that
    each participant receive a copy of the dossier
    before traveling.


  2. Itineraries
    Please note that itineraries will depend on local conditions. Participants should be aware that
    traveling in Africa is sometimes unpredictable.


  3. Climatic Conditions
    The winter nights in southern Africa (May to September) are very cold with pleasant days.
    Warm clothing is essential for this time of year.


  4. Luggage
    Luggage is limited to 12kg + 1 camera bag per person. Any luggage in excess of 12kg or large suitcases will not be loaded onto the vehicle. We recommend the use of a soft canvas barrel bag. We advise all participants to follow the airline rules and regulations regarding their toiletries and medication. Passengers who have a connecting flight should collect their luggage at each airport to avoid the risk of luggage loss whilst in transit.

    NB: For itineraries that include a light aircraft scenic flight / transfer, luggage is limited to 12kg in soft
    barrel bag.


  5. Bedding
    On all Serviced Camping Safaris a sleeping bag / bed roll and small pillow are provided. Clients traveling during the winter months of May - September may wish to bring an additional small blanket as temperatures in certain areas drop considerably at night.

  6. Personal Effects
    Travel light with light, casual clothing for the day and a jersey or tracksuit for the evenings. (A warm jacket is essential for winter months). Do not take along too much clothing. Take a good pair of walking shoes. Do not forget a torch, water bottle, swimsuit, hat, sun block cream, binoculars and camera. Allow enough money for souvenirs, evenings out, drinks, special excursions and personal expenses.

  7. Travel Documents
    You will require a valid passport with 2 blank pages for entry into South Africa. Please check with us, your local consulate or travel agent as to visa, passport and health requirements. It is your responsibility to ensure that your passport, visas and vaccination certificates are all in order before departure. We cannot be held liable for any passenger being refused entry into a country for any reason whatsoever.

  8. Health
    You must be in good health to undertake any safari.
    We visit remote areas with little or no medical facilities. Our safaris are not strenuous and anybody leading
    a moderately active lifestyle can participate. Our
    safari consultants will advise you on the safari best
    suited to you.
  1. Smoking on Tour
    For the comfort and safety of our participants we
    have a NO SMOKING policy in all our vehicles and
    inside our tents.


  2. Nationality, Date of Birth, Flight Details
    We require the name, nationality, date of birth and
    flight details of each participant.


  3. Insurance
    Comprehensive Travel Insurance covering cancellation, curtailment, medical, emergency travel and personal accident is compulsory on all Karibu Safaris. The client must be aware that it is their responsibility to take out insurance. The client will effect personal insurance and must be satisfied that their insurance fully covers their personal requirements. Please note that credit card travel insurance is inadequate for a safari.

  4. Cancellation Fees
    41+ days before departure: Deposit - 20% of total fare
    41-29 days before departure: 40% of the total fare
    28-14 days before departure: 60% of the total fare
    13-0 days before departure: 100% of the total fare
    No show on day of departure: 100% of the total fare (regardless of circumstances)


  5. Administration Fees
    An Administration/ Communication fee of Euro 40 will be applicable when altering a reservation 41 days or more before departure. Cancellation fees will be applicable for cancellation within 41 days before departure.

  6. Indemnity
    All participants traveling on a Karibu Safari are
    required to complete and sign an Indemnity Form
    before joining the safari.


  7. Complaints
    Should participants have a complaint whilst on safari, the clients must inform the tour leader in order that they may attempt to rectify the matter. Should the matter not be rectified whilst on tour, the client should write to Karibu as soon as possible, as the complaint must be received by Karibu within 30 days of completion of the tour in order for the matter to be investigated. Claims may not be considered outside that time. Karibu will not entertain complaints due to Loss of Enjoyment where the full land arrangements have been provided.

  8. Hotel Accommodation, Airfares, Parking
    We can arrange accommodation and regional
    airfares before and after your safari. For self-drive travelers, arrangements can also be made for parking
    in Maun or Windhoek.


  9. Payments
    A non-refundable booking deposit of 20% is required to confirm your seat. The balance is due 45 days before departure. We do not send statements or reminders. Please ensure that your payment reaches us in time in order to secure your seat.
